One of Nilgiri's popular estates. Sweet taste and rich aroma. An all-day tea.

This is yet another fabulous tea from the South Indian region. The tea is grown in the picturesque Blue Mountain slopes in tropical forest region of Darjeeling district. The leaves of the tea are processed and cultivated within the precincts of hilly plants like blue gum, eucalyptus and cypress. That is the reason why Nilgiry tea leaves emanates the minty and lemony flavors when they are brewed. Its first time users would find the taste as tongue tingling and would be surprised with the aroma. Because of its fabulous fragrance and taste, the whole-leaf Nilgiry tea is finding its place in Western markets. The tea is produced by adopting Orthodox method. Orange Peko or Op, the Nilgiry Tea leaf is one of the most expensive tea leaves and is a very popular item in international auctions. On the other hand its medium sized broken PO used in premium teas is less expensive and is usually processed by adopting CTC method. Like other teas black tea often provides around 20mg of flavinoids antioxidant per cup. These tea flavinoids are considered more powerful than vitamin C and E.

Like other black teas, the Nilgiry tea has been found effective in controlling skin cancer which could occur due to UV light. Random studies have focused that black teas protect skin from damage and inflammation. Other benefits of having this tea are enhancement in mental alertness and improvisation in mood and fatigue reduction. Black tea consumption also aids in relaxing the body via increased vasodilation of skin blood vessels and mind and helps in reducing the feeling of nervousness. Did you know Nilgiry tea is a natural source of fluoride and provides nutrients like folic acid, manganese, potassium and vitamin k? The tea is grown at an elevation of 750 to 2000 meters. The tea pluckers of the area also possess knowledge about this tea and pick only the good quality two leaves and the bud to increase its unique flavor which is usually described as “Muscatel”.

I really liked this, which has a classic tea taste with a good amount of lemon notes and a nice astringency with a tinge of honey like sweetness. On brewing, the tea comes up with a substantial body without being too overwhelmed and what’s more, it does need any addition to it. The tea tastes at its very best. Still I am alwais eager to experiment with the tea, so, i went ahead with adding a small amount of milk into it and experienced a pleasant cup of tea and found it very enjoyable.

While thinking of any Indian tea, the first thing that comes into your mind is Assam and Darjeeling. However, recently i read an article, that Nilgiri teas also stand out completely in various departments. I bought a pack from Primatea to try it out and I must say, I’m pretty much impressed with it. A 4-6 minutes of brewing will give you a decent cup of tea. The scent s simply stunning and the taste is awesome. The taste of this tea lingers in your mouth and the finishing of the tea is just clean, crisp and refreshing. I did made a nice iced tea. However, I found it to be best suitable for breakfast.
