This exotic variety of tea produced exclusively in Yunnan province of China dating back about 1700 years.
Pu erh tea cakes need to be handled a bit differently from usual loose leaf teas. If the tea cakes are really hard, you may use a knife to cut out a small required amount of tea. Prewash the leaves by steeping them in boiling water for about 3-5 minutes. This kind of “awakens” the leaves and readies them for a more drinkable brew. It also draws out the sharp aroma and flavour out of the tea. Drain off this first brew and again steep tea leavers in boiling hot water for about for 2-3 minutes. It yields full bodied liquor which has a smooth rounded taste without any sharp tones.
